Stainless steel use has boomed in recent years, and almost every industry you can think of uses it to some extent. In Canada , industries using stainless steel run a full gauntlet, they include: medical, automotive, construction, aviation and watercraft to just name a few. As more industries realize the value of stainless steel as well as its durability they are finding new and innovative ways to use it all across Canada . Some of these ideas they are even exporting to other countries to show them innovative new uses for stainless steel products.
The construction industry in Canada has long been a heavy user of stainless steel . Many homes today are constructed of stainless steel beams in addition to wooden beams to increase the structural integrity of the house as well as help it withstand stronger winds and increase the fire protection of the structure itself. The use of stainless steel doesn t stop with just the frame of the house. More and more builders are also turning to stainless steel as tiling for floors and wills, in fixtures and even in the nails and screws they use to put the house together with. They are using stainless steel because of the durability and anti-corrosive properties it gives them. With innovations such as ring shank nails and such the structural integrity of a house can be improved by almost 50% in some cases by using stainless steel building materials and fasteners.
The medical industry continues to be an innovation leader in the use of stainless steel across Canada . From stents that go into a patient s arteries during open heart surgery to help with angioplasty to the use of stainless steel stitches to help wounds heal without risk of infection or allergic reactions, stainless steel is finding its way into more and more medical centers. Special grades of stainless steel are used to manufacture the medical instruments used in the operating room while stainless steel fixtures in hospital intensive care rooms help keep down germs and bacteria that can be deadly to patients with weakened immune systems. Canada leads in innovative uses for stainless steel at the medical level with many of their ideas having been exported around the world.
The automotive industry has been a large stainless steel consumer for years. The frames of most modern cars and trucks are made of stainless steel to help cut down on corrosion and rusting, two of the biggest problems that plague drivers especially in northern parts of Canada where salt is used sometimes year round to control ice buildup. This same salt can attack metals and destroy it, but with stainless steel it can withstand the constant salt attacks without worry of breaking down the metal underneath it.
Watercraft manufacturers are one of the late adopters in Canada of using stainless steel but they are quickly catching up. Because of its durability and relatively light weight many boats and recreational watercraft are now being constructed out of stainless steel. Even internal components in the engine are being switched over to stainless steel because of weight and corrosion concerns.
Like most of the world, Canada continues to move forward with its use of stainless steel as the entire industry grows worldwide. The demand for stainless steel has never been greater and with Canada as both a producer and manufacturer of stainless steel related products they are on the forefront of changing trends and technology within the industry.
